Center plans infertility seminar

Portsmouth Herald - April 19, 2004

PORTSMOUTH - Industry experts believe many couples who have been unable to conceive a child do not seek treatment either because of lack of information and/or lack of funds.

The Reproductive Science Center is hoping to change that situation for the one in six couples of childbearing age who live in New Hampshire and who are unable to conceive a child.

Couples who have been having problems getting or staying pregnant may feel confused, frustrated and alone. Obtaining information about available options is the first step to resolving infertility.

The RSC is offering a free couples seminar from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, at the Sheraton Harborside Portsmouth. Titled "Infertility Treatment Options: Which One Is Right for You?" the seminar plans to feature board-certified fertility specialist Dr. Samuel Pang, who also is RSC’s associate medical director.

He is planning to discuss the diagnostic process, different treatment options for female and male infertility, and the latest advances.

Couples also will be able to talk one-on-one with Dr. Pang and other RSC specialists and receive information on RSC’s exclusive financial package, the Shared Risk IVF Refund Program. This financing program guarantees a money-back refund if treatment is not successful and can be a big help to couples in New Hampshire, where fertility treatment coverage is not mandated.

Dr. Pang is a board-certified reproductive endocrinologist who served his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Toronto. He successfully completed a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at the UCLA School of Medicine in California. Before joining RSC in 1993, Dr. Pang was assistant professor of gynecology and obstetrics at Loma Linda University School of Medicine in California. At the Deaconess Waltham Hospital, he was appointed chief of OB/GYN.

Dr. Pang is a licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada, as well as a diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners in the United States. He was president of the Boston Fertility Society in 2001. He has conducted research and been published in the areas of menopause, infertility and andrology, and has a special interest in the management of male infertility. Dr. Pang is the medical director of the Egg Donation and Gestational Surrogacy Program.

Couples interested in attending the seminar should register by calling 877-MEET-RSC (633-8772) or visiting www.rscnewengland.com.

RSC provides a broad range of conventional and advanced reproductive technologies services to patients and physicians throughout New England. Its nationally recognized team of reproductive endocrinologists, embryologists and nurses work together with a caring support team to provide patients with the optimum in fertility diagnosis and treatment.

RSC has been nationally recognized for success rates.
