Couple's heartache over surrogacy con

2 Apr, 2004, 16:24 ITV.com

A childless couple have been speaking for the first time about their heartache after being conned by a West Yorkshire woman's internet surrogacy scam.

Sharon and Peter Robinson-Hudson were desperate for a child of their own but unable to conceive, and prevented from adopting because Peter was over 40.

So, after seeing Moira Greenslade's advert on an American surrogacy website, they struck a £5,000 deal with her.

Greenslade, from Keighley, could be facing jail after admitting trying to sell her unborn baby to three different couples. This week she pleaded guilty to the scam and breaking adoption laws and could now be facing a jail sentence.

Sharon said : "I've got a physical pain that I want a child and that's why we started looking. She used to tell me about the baby kicking. I'd love it to happen to me and I was so desperate for a baby and she didn't want this baby, she said. She told us we would be wonderful parents for Katie, as we named her. We did everything and I just believed her, I believed everything she told me."

Greenslade gave birth to a baby girl in December at a hospital in Southampton. The child was immediately taken into care.

Sharon and Peter are now calling for stricter regulations on surrogacy to prevent others going through the same heartache they have suffered.
