MILFORD, Mass. -- Thursday was far from an average day at work for Milford obstetrician Dr. Hayley Marshall. She delivered twins, but not just any twins -- her own twins.
NewsCenter 5's Jim Boyd reported that Marshall helped the woman serving as her surrogate deliver a healthy set of twins at Milford-Whitinsville Regional Hospital."It was actually very surreal, and it was amazing to think that the head that was coming toward me was actually my baby," said Marshall.
Baby Chloe was born first at 12:48 p.m. Thursday and sister Phoebe followed four minutes later.
Marshall said she needed a surrogate mother to carry her twins for medical reasons.
"I delivered the first baby and we didn't want to have one of the twins feel left out and the second baby came right down, so I came over and delivered the second baby. It was beautiful," said Marshall.Marshall's husband, John Drohan, is a captain in the Army National Guard and is stationed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He was able to rush home just in time for the twins' birth.
"I ran from one flight to another in Charlotte to make sure I caught the connecting flight. I made it by an hour and 40 minutes," said Drohan.Chloe and Phoebe are welcomed home by an older sister, Lilly, 6, who said she can't tell her new sisters apart.
"No, not too good," said Lilly.Mom, dad and Lilly are still marveling at the new additions to their family.
"It's hard to put into words how it felt, and how it feels," said Drohan."It is just very emotional. It was beautiful," said Marshall.
The proud parents said they have a secret to keeping the twins straight -- Phoebe wears a pink hat -- "P" for Phoebe and pink; and Chloe, alphabetically first, was born first.
