Mum aims for ninth surrogate baby
"People call me rent-a-womb, which is unkind. But I do what I do for the love of it. It's not about money, it's about making childless couples happy" - Carole Horlock

A woman who has given birth to eight surrogate babies has sparked fresh controversy by trying for a ninth baby.

Thirty-six-year-old Carole Horlock has signed a £15,000 expense deal to give birth to a baby for another couple in the UK.

She unveiled her plans only weeks after giving birth to the eighth baby.

Ms Horlock said: "People call me rent-a-womb, which is unkind. But I do what I do for the love of it. It's not about money, it's about making childless couples happy."

Pro-life campaigners have condemned her actions. John Smeaton of the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children said: "To deliberately disturb the psychology of the child from the outset is wrong.

"Separating a child from its biological mother is unnatural and will cause that child great suffering and pain."

Her family are also unhappy about Ms Horlock's actions and motives. Her father, a committed Christian, has condemned her actions and her ex-husband, Stephen Horlock, said: "Money is definitely what drives Carole. She will never reveal how much she makes from it. She has never really held down a proper job. I find the whole surrogacy thing bizarre."
